Overview

This site is owned and managed by the Asociación Barcelona Women´s Network (BWN).

Your privacy on the Internet is of the utmost importance to us. At BWN we want to make your experience online satisfying and safe. Because we gather certain types of information about our users, we feel you should fully understand the terms and conditions surrounding the capture and use of that information. This privacy statement discloses what information we gather and how we use it.

Collection, use and disclosure of personal information

BWN gathers two types of information about users:

1. Information that users provide through optional, voluntary submissions. These are voluntary submissions to receive our electronic newsletters, to participate in our message boards or forums, and responses to BWN surveys in which our users agree to participate. 

2. Information BWN gathers through aggregated tracking information derived mainly by tallying page views throughout our sites. This information allows us to better tailor our content to readers’ needs and to help our advertisers and sponsors better understand the demographics of our audience. Under no circumstances does BWN divulge any information about an individual user to a third party.
   
   

BWN Gathers User Information In The Following Processes:

Registration information

When members register on our website they are asked to provide information about themselves in a brief online questionnaire.Only First Name, Last Name and Email address are mandatory fields. 

Optional Voluntary Information:

We offer the following free services, which require some type of voluntary submission of personal information by users

1.E-mail communications

BWN uses the email address provided during membership registration to send newsletters, event invitations, membership updates, and other communications related to BWN activities and services. Members may unsubscribe from non-essential email communications at any time by clicking the "Unsubscribe" link included in our emails. Please note that members may continue to receive essential communications relating to their membership, account, or events for which they have registered

2. Message boards/forums

Users of the site’s Message Boards and Forums (namely, the BWN Community group and auxiliary BWN WhatsApp groups) do not need to register separately in order to post messages. They need to request access to the BWN Community WhatsApp group by adding their designated mobile number together with their First and Last Names associated with their membership and an Admin will give them access, on confirming that the requester is a BWN Member.

3. Polling

We may offer interactive polls to users so that members can easily share their opinions with other members and see what our audience thinks about important issues. Opinions or other responses to polls are aggregated and are not identifiable to any particular user. BWN may use a system to “tag” users after they have voted, so they can vote only once on a particular question. This tag is not correlated with information about individual users.

4. Surveys

BWN may occasionally conduct user surveys to better target our content to our audience. We sometimes share the aggregated demographic information in these surveys with our sponsors, advertisers and partners. We never share any information about specific individuals with any third party.

Children

Consistent with the SPANISH LAW Federal Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998 (COPPA), we will never knowingly request personally identifiable information from anyone under the age of 13 without requesting parental consent.

Usage Tracking

BWN tracks user traffic patterns throughout all of our sites. However, we do not correlate this information with data about individual users. BWN does break down overall usage statistics according to a user’s domain name, browser type, and MIME type by reading this information from the browser string (information contained in every user’s browser).
BWN sometimes tracks and catalogs the search terms that users enter in our Search function, but this tracking is never associated with individual users. We use tracking information to determine which areas of our sites users like and don’t like based on traffic to those areas. We do not track what individual users read, but rather how well each page performs overall. This helps us continue to build a better service for you.

Cookies

We may place a text file called a “cookie” in the browser files of your computer. The cookie itself does not contain Personal Information although it will enable us to relate your use of this site to information that you have specifically and knowingly provided. But the only personal information a cookie can contain is information you supply yourself. A cookie can’t read data off your hard disk or read cookie files created by other sites. BWN uses cookies to track user traffic patterns (as des cribed above). Our advertising system delivers a one-time cookie to better track ad impressions and click rates.
You can refuse cookies by turning them off in your browser. If you’ve set your browser to warn you before accepting cookies, you will receive the warning message with each cookie. You do not need to have cookies turned on to use this site. However, you do need cookies to participate actively in message boards, forums, polling and surveys.

Usage of Information

BWN uses any information voluntarily given by our users to enhance their experience in our site, whether to provide interactive or personalized elements on the sites or to better prepare future content based on the interests of our users. As stated above, we use information that users voluntarily provide in order to send out electronic newsletters and to enable users to participate in polls, surveys, message boards, and forums. We send out newsletters to subscribers on a regular schedule, and occasionally send out special editions when we think subscribers might be particularly interested in something we are doing.

BWN never shares newsletter mailing lists with any third parties, including advertisers, sponsors or other partners.

We use tracking information to determine which areas of our sites users like and don’t like based on traffic to those areas. We do not track which individual users read, but rather how well each page performs overall. This helps us continue to build a better service for you. We track search terms entered in Search function as one of many measures of what interests our users. But we don’t track which terms a particular user enters.

Providing Information About Others

In some cases, members may provide personal information about another individual, such as when registering a guest for an event. By providing another person's personal information, you confirm that you have informed them of this and, where required, obtained their consent to share their information with Barcelona Women's Network for the relevant purpose.

We will use such personal information only for the purpose for which it was provided and in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

Third-parties applications

BWN uses the information described above to tailor its content to suit the needs of its members and help its advertisers better understand its audience’s demographics. This is essential to keeping our service free.

BWN will not share information about individual users with any third party, except to comply with applicable law or valid legal process or to protect the personal safety of its users or the public.

Security

BWN takes appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your personal information against unauthorised access, loss, misuse, alteration, or disclosure. Access to personal data is restricted to authorised individuals who require it to perform their responsibilities. We regularly review our security practices and procedures to help ensure that your personal information remains protected.

Personal information stored within our membership management platform is protected using the security measures implemented by our service providers.

Your Consent

By using this site, you consent to the collection and use of this information by BWN. If we decide to change our privacy policy, we will post those changes on this page so that you are always aware of what information we collect, how we use it, and under what circumstances we disclose it.

BWN provides on the Site links to other websites (“External Links”). By choosing to follow these External Links you are no longer accessing the Site and therefore BWN is not responsible for the contents of these External Links or any damage of any kind that you may suffer by accessing these External Links. The fact that BWN has External Links on the Site does not imply agreement with or endorsement of the content of those External Links or the sites they lead to. By accessing the External Links, you accepts all responsibilities and damages derived from such use.

Links to the BWN website

You must ask permission from BWN by writing to bwn@bcnwomensnetwork.com if you wish to place a link to the BWN Site on your own website. In the case where BWN grants permission, the fact that the permission was granted does not imply agreement with the contents or endorsement of the website where the link is posted.

Image policy

Please note: group photos of BWN events are typically posted on the BWN public website and social media pages. If you do not wish your photo to be used, please notify the Board, or let the photographer know at the event.
