Casal dels Infants
Following the election of Casal dels Infants as the official BWN charity at the June 2025 Monthly Meeting, Maribel, from the Charity Committee visited the Raval premises (Casal dels Infants has several locations) to see first-hand the great work they are doing.
I was greeted by Raquel Ortega, Communications Director, and Cristina Savin, our public relations contact. We will ask them to come and present the Charity at a Monthly Meeting in the fall.
Casal dels Infants started work in 1978, and was founded as an organization in 1983. They have accompanied more than 40.000 young children, teenagers and their families in the development of their own abilities to succeed in life.
It’s an educational entity to accompany and help children (kindergarden to 6 years old and 6 to 12 years old) in their development and skills, and provide support and school reinforcement for teenagers from 12 to 16 years old. It also provides activities in their free time. There is a Particular Project to support girls in their different cultural background, empowering them to make choices and providing opportunities beyond models they have at home, with an educational team.
Current sources of income: 50% Public / 50% private donations

Income dedicated: 80% to purpose of the organization, 20% administrative
During the summer, they run summer day camps for young children, starting with age group 3-6 years old, including breakfeast, an activity such as an outing to the beach, lunch etc, returning home at 16h00. The facilities include a kitchen, a laundry, WC and a hall for mothers to stay while kindergarden children participate in activities. Older children go to summer camp for a month. For some of them, it is the first time they spend time in a green landscape Timetables are shown in classrooms including spaces for communication, cleaning duties, feedback. Children also have their own drawer in the classrooms where they can keep their own things as they may not have space at home (families that live in a single room or who are being evicted). |

| For older children and adolescents, particularly older ones, Casal dels Infants provides orientation and accompaniment to aquire skills, such as electrician or waiter, to start learning their jobs from the bottoms up. This is done through free courses and workshops in different trades, aimed at young people and adults aged 16 and over. Casal dels Infants also has a job board and acoompanies young people during the first months of their job insertion, in coordination with the contracted company to guarantee a positive start for both them and the company. Casal desl Infants participates in the URRA Kids project, an initiative promoted by the European Commission. Its objective is to promote civic engagement and participation of young people between 13 and 17 years old in activities focused on urban regeneration and ecosocial transition, and focuses on involving young people from vulnerable contexts and of migrated origin.
