About Us
The Barcelona Women’s Network is a non-profit, non-religious, and non-political social and charitable organization offering support and friendship to both local and international women residing in the greater Barcelona area.
Started by a small group of friends in 1998, the BWN has emerged into a dynamic and diverse group with an average membership of 210 women from over 20 different nationalities.
Our purpose is fourfold:
-
Foster friendships and goodwill among women of all nations.
-
Encourage a greater cultural understanding of the many facets of life in Barcelona and Catalonia.
-
Showcase the goods and services of business members as well as provide professional networking opportunities.
-
Give back to the community through fundraising for a variety of local charities, which focus on women’s and children’s interests.
Every month, BWN members enjoy exclusive invitations to social, educational, cultural, charitable, and professional events. They have access to member forums, member directories, special offers from sponsors and partners, and an amazing network of contacts, talents, and knowledge.
Our Charitable Focus
Every two years, the Barcelona Women’s Network selects two or three local organizations to support through financial contributions and with the time, talents and expertise of our membership.
We are delighted to lend our support to these two organizations during the 2018 – 2020 membership years.

A.A.D.A.S (Associacio Assistencia Dones Agredides Sexualment) provides free specialised and total assistance for women, children and adolescents who have suffered sexual violence. Registered since 1991, the organisation has been very active in changing the treatment victims of sexual violence receive from the authorities, working with the police and hospitals to raise awareness and put in place suitable protocols.

Their mission is to help very elderly people who live alone on a very low income (with minimum pension) with weekly visit from volunteers, help with housework and bureaucracy, workshops and social events, and food parcels where necessary. The social aspect is a vital part of it as many do not have any surviving family members. Currently 421 people are being helped by this organisation (333 women), with the majority being over the age of 85, and a few over 100 years old. Most of the beneficiaries are Spanish, some South American, and one English lady
